Third of a three part series of dolphin and whale tails. This is a Rough Toothed Dolphin, whose identifying characteristic is it's head and rostrum shape. This species is very playful, so here is one about to knock the others head in a bit of rough housing.

A dolphin head shaped from a burned base from a Manzanita tree, lost to the great wild fires of Southern California. The burned cracks and swirling defects define the interesting and formative facial features to this animal.

The harbor seal rises to the water surface with only head and shoulders exposed. Big eyes, whiskers erect and soft round head profile makes for a comedic presence, characteristic of these animals.

Driftwood collected from San Miguel Island (California) beachcombing during a research project in 1973 became MOM DOLPHIN WITH THREE CALVES IN PURSUIT in 1998.

First rendition of a Yellowfin tuna. Fin rays are etched and singed, dorsal color mode is stained, and irridescent mid lateral lines of greens, golds and teal are characterized by various patterns of scoring in the wood.

Another salvaged piece of fire wood, simply sculpted to reveal the deep reds, yellows and golds of the Manzanita, then augmented with a colorful tapestry shash. A contrast in the formal richness of wood, and the playful rainbow colors of the shash.

Eastern Black Walnut formed into a beautiful, and shapely, woman's torso, from neck to knee. Base is free form using burl of unidentified Tahitian hardwood, with Manzanita branch legs.
